We’re going to experiment with ways to highlight some very special pets at shelter partners, pets that for one reason or another just aren’t getting adopted – in spite of being truly wonderful animals.
Today we focus on Barley, a German Shepherd/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix in Connecticut who is available through our partner Outreach To Pets In Need (OPIN), which works in cooperation with Stamford Animal Care & Control. Maybe you, or someone you know, will be his forever home.
Barley is equally happy to scope out squirrels and geese on long walks as he is to chill in a home setting. He’s excellent on the leash, extremely well-mannered and good with children. He would do best in a single-pet household, though with his intelligence and good disposition, could be happy anywhere with proper training.
Sadly, Barley was neglected by his previous family. Otherwise healthy, he does have canine DLE, which simply requires putting a few pills in his food and sunscreen on his nose in the summertime. Because of this minor and very treatable condition, countless adopters have passed by this truly wonderful dog. To ease his adoption, OPIN will pay for all of his DLE-related medication and treatment for life.
Barley is about five years old and a manageable 52 pounds, with a soft, thick, apricot-colored coat. He needs and deserves the unconditional love of a forever family, which he’d return many times over. And if you happen to love Alice Cooper or AC/DC, you’re in luck: Barley is a true rocker and this is some of his favorite music.
Barley qualifies for the Pets for Patriots program, which entitles eligible military professionals to discounted care over the life of Barley through member veterinarians and direct financial support towards the purchase of pet food and other basics.
