Big changes at Pets for Patriots

I realize that you haven’t heard from me in a while, and are probably wondering about all the great things that are happening at Pets for Patriots. Well, that’s about to change.

Starting next week, you’ll receive a weekly e-newsletter with program updates and real-life stories of pets and veterans whose lives are transformed through our honorable pet adoption program. Til then, a quick update:

In late May, we held our inaugural Be A Pet’s Hero fundraiser in Washington, DC. The event was a great success, thanks in large part to the tremendous work of an all-volunteer, DC-based team of patriots and animal lovers. Lots of great sponsors answered the call and everyone – including our pet guests – had a tail-wagging good time.

Our volunteer program got off to a slow start, but we now have a core group of dedicated individuals conducting shelter, veterinary and volunteer outreach, writing and editing, administrative support, research and even working on an upcoming video shoot! Our team includes military veterans who are passionate about our cause, even a few who have benefited from our program. We want highly motivated people who are moved by our mission, and who bring the skills and commitment needed to help us meet our charitable aims. And we continue to look for a fabulous, innovative PR volunteer or pro bono partner, so please spread the word!

Yes, that! I’m still pinching myself from the day we received an invitation to be a content partner for the world’s largest private military-to-military website. In early June, launched their new Pet Corner featuring Pets for Patriots content, almost exclusively. This opportunity has given our small, young cause a tremendous platform to reach the very people we aim to serve. And in time, we expect it to be a fabulous way for us – as well as our partners and sponsors – to connect with tens of millions of military members and their families.

In reintroducing our blog, we took an important step to create more opportunities for reader feedback, sharing pet adoption stories and connecting to our social media – all of which we think provides a more fulfilling experience for our fans. Wet Nose Blog

As you’re probably aware, the economy has been particularly harsh on charities – especically those young and small – and ours is no exception. We’ve managed to do tremendous things with limited resources, and have grown a lot since our launch. Thinking back, a little over a year ago this day we had not made a single pet-veteran connection. Today, we stand at nearly 40 honorable adoptions: almost 80 lives forever transformed by the simple act of putting a last-chance pet together with a veteran or service member.

The bottom line is that we need your financial support more than ever if we hope to build on our early successes. In addition to contributions from individuals, like you, we’re seeking a corporate sponsor to help fund an urgently needed technology upgrade that will greatly improve our ability to serve veteran applicants, member Patriots and our growing list of shelter and veterinary partners. If you or someone you know is interested to sponsor this need, please email me, or call me directly at 877-4-PETCADET (877-473-8223).

As always, I thank you for your belief in and support of our cause. And please let us know next week what you think of our new e-newsletter!
