With summer on our doorsteps and beautiful weather in communities across the country, it’s tempting to spend this long weekend doing all the things we rarely have time to do during the week. Go to the beach. Hit the local park. Enjoy a barbecue with family and friends.
There’s nothing wrong with any of those things. But this weekend and this day, it’s not about throwing another shrimp on the barbie, as they say. Please make room in your schedules and your hearts for those who traded their lives for our freedom. Memorial Day is not a holiday; as its name suggests, its a memoriam to the brave men and women who have laid down their lives so that we can live ours in liberty. Let’s never forget the incalculable debt of gratitude we owe to them, and honor them on this and every day.
