Last-chance pets transform veterans’ lives

As 2011 draws to a close, we celebrate the 60 last-chance pets who are transforming the lives of veterans and service members in need. They’re the adult dogs and cats, large dogs and special needs pets who faced near-certain death at a shelter if not adopted. Today, because of our organization and your support, they have a second chance at life.

The human side of this story is no less dramatic.

Sixty heroes from virtually every generational conflict: World War II, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan. Men and women who have defended the cause of freedom in Bosnia, Lebanon, Grenada and countless other places around the world that have relied upon the United States military in their hour of need. At Pets for Patriots, we’re proud to offer a charitable program that’s available to all eligible military personnel at any stage of their careers and from all armed forces.

Together we have transformed 120 lives through the power of the pet-person bond.

Kip & CéilidhConnections like Kip and Céilidh. Kip is a member of the Indiana Air National Guard who was devastated at the death of a beloved pet. After a period of mourning, Kip and his wife visited the shelter, where the dog that captured their hearts was terrified of people. She cowered in her kennel and was poorly socialized, but Kip was not deterred.

“We knew right then that this was a dog that needed our love and attention.”

As much as Céilidh needed Kip, he needed her, too. He now says of her, “She lights up my life.”

This is just one of the 60 stories – the 120 lives – transformed through our honorable companion pet adoption program. But adoption is just the beginning of our work.

To reduce the chance of owner surrender, Pets for Patriots addresses one of the key reasons for animal relinquishment: cost of pet ownership. Through our network of veterinary partners we provide access to high quality, ongoing discounted medical care. And every adopter receives a $150 gift card from us to help with the purchase of pet food and other basics, which is renewable annually.

We’re proud of the 120 lives that are forever changed because our program exists. But we’re just getting started. With your help, we can save so many more. Whether you can spare $5, $50, $500 or $5,000, your gift will make a real and lasting impact in the lives of our nation’s veterans, service members and their families, as well as the four-legged lives they save.

Make your tax-deductible contribution today. And share this message with at least one friend, neighbor or coworker who you believe would be inspired by our cause.

Best,

Beth Zimmerman

  1. Hi P4P,

So glad you help so many in need from both sides – vets and pets.

The annual gift card and veterinarian discounts can really help.

Glad Kip and Céilidh are a good match.
