I’m a little overdue updating you on all the happenings here at Pets for Patriots, so without further ado – here goes!

New program with the U.S. Army
Recently I met with the Army AW2 Wounded Warrior Program team at Fort Carson, Colorado. These folks provide intensive therapy and assistance to seriously wounded soldiers and help them acclimate to life after active duty. Since that meeting, we’re now a member of the AW2’s national community support network, and just about two weeks ago formally launched a program with the AW2 team at Fort Carson. Wounded soldiers who don’t qualify for a service animal –  but would benefit from a new pet friend – will be referred to us. And we have a terrific set of shelter and veterinary partners in both Denver and Colorado Springs (more on that in a moment) to help them select and care for a dog or cat that’s just right for them. Woot!

Getting the word out to injured veterans
On the heels of developing a relationship with the Army’s AW2 program team we were recommended for listing in the National Resource Directory, an online partnership for injured veterans and the organizations – like ours! – that support them. And as a reminder, we’re a proud national sponsor of the Real Warriors Campaign, a national effort to reduce the stigma associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and other psychological trauma.

Newest member animal shelters
Currently we have member shelters in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, New York and Texas, with more in the application process. Here are the latest shelters, rescues and humane societies to join our cause:

Dumb Friends League – Denver, CO
Angels With Paws – Lakewood, CO
Lake City Humane Society – Lake City, FL
City of Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control – Fort Wayne, IN
Humane Society of Indianapolis – Indianapolis, IN
Elgin Humane Society – Elgin, TX
Bastrop County Animal Shelter – Bastrop, TX

Newest member veterinary practices
The veterinarians are a little slower to get with the program, but we’re very proud of those that support our cause – including quite a few that are AAHA accredited, a distinction given to only the top 15% of veterinary practices in the country. Currently we have partners in Colorado, Indiana, New York and Texas, but need community-minded practices near Lakewood (FL), Elgin (TX) and Fort Wayne (IN) that recognize that doing good is good for business:

Community Pet Hospital – North Metro Denver, CO (love that the hospital administrator is a veteran; hooah!)
Cook Veterinary Hospital – Colorado Springs, CO
Westside Animal Hospital – Colorado Springs, CO
Arlington Heights Veterinary Hospital – Bloomington, IN
Goldens Bridge Veterinary Care – Goldens Bridge, NY
Bastop Veterinary Hospital – Bastrop, TX

Gratitude to the Jewish War Veterans
In July I had the opportunity and pleasure to speak to the Jewish War Veterans Chwatzky-Farber Post 717 in Oceanside, New York. A finer group of patriots you have not seen! This group, which includes our family member, volunteer and WWII veteran – Charles – raises money to help veterans in and around their community. On behalf of Pets for Patriots, I accepted a generous donation from the post and thank them for their ongoing support of our cause.

Hello, HALO!
Say ‘hello’ to our newest corporate sponsor, HALO, Purely for Pets. HALO makes high quality, natural dog and cat food, supplements and treats, as well as grooming supplies. The company is part-owned by comedienne and animal lover Ellen DeGeneres, who contributes her passion and good name to a host of shelter pet-related causes. HALO has extended a special discount available only to member Patriots as well as $5 off any HALO order for any visitor to our site. Check it out and get some good, healthy stuff for your pet!

Summer is time for pets on the go
Just a reminder to visit our sponsor, Surfpet, which offers thousands of quality products for pets on the go. Owners Mary and Dan want to give back to organizations that benefit shelter animals (check!) and veterans (check again!). Simply shop at Surfpet and use code PFP5 at checkout. Automatically, our charity receives 5% of your sale as a donation. It’s an easy way for you to support us just by getting the things you need for your pet.

Used vehicle donation
We’re still on the hunt for reliable, used, large crossover/small SUV to “wrap” with custom decals and use as mobile advertising and education for our cause. If you or someone you know is in the giving mood, we could really use some wheels to take us across the country to events and fundraisers. Make no mistake, we plan on turning a lot of heads with our Pets for Patriots mobile. Interested parties can contact me directly at 877-4-PETCADET (877-473-8223) or by email.

As a public charity we rely on the generosity of individuals and companies to support our good works. No contribution is too small or large, so please give a gift today to help us save the lives of both pet and person. Your contribution is tax-deductible by law. Please share this email with your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers to help us Bring Loyalty Home!
