Texas dog puts best paw forward in Extreme Mutt Makeover

A Texas dog named Roy hopes his candidacy in the Extreme Mutt Makeover wins him what he longs for most: a forever family.

Roy is a Pets for Patriots eligible dog being cared for by the great folks at the Plano Animal Shelter in Texas, one of our many partners nationwide. Adopted from another shelter as a puppy, Roy was surrendered because his family no longer had time for him.

Taking it to the extreme

Roy is now competing in the Extreme Mutt Makeover, where he’s spending eight weeks with a trainer to turn him from an energetic young dog to a well-mannered best friend. Like so many pitbulls, he’s very people-oriented and just wants to please. He would fit in well with an active household – he loves visits to the lake and playing ball – but is just as much at home snuggling on the couch with his family. He’s equally good with children and adults.

While Roy is learning basic good manners, he’s learned a few special tricks as well: he can blow bubbles in a water bowl with his nose and is learning to do a “handstand” with his back legs up against a wall. That Roy is one amazing boy!

Lovable, but unlucky in love

Unlike most of the other dogs in the makeover, Roy has not yet had many folks interested to adopt him. Because of his underdog status and the false perceptions of pitbulls as dangerous animals, we’re proud to feature Roy in the hopes that our appeal will help him get adopted.

Although Roy is eligible to approved Pets for Patriots members, our goal is for him to find any suitable, forever family. He needs people who will appreciate his sweet, loving and energetic nature, and help him continue the great strides he’s made already in just a few short weeks of training.

Root for Roy!

The Extreme Mutt Makeover competition is October 13th from 10am-7pm at the Will Rogers Equestrian Center‘s Brown-Lupton Room in Forth Worth, Texas.

Meet Roy in person and watch him compete for the opportunity of his life: a second chance.

Even if you can’t adopt Roy, you can help him right now:

  • “Like” and share his Facebook page (we’re aiming for 2,000 by Friday 10/12). If he gets enough fans he could win a People’s Choice Award!
  • Watch and share his adoption video
  • Share this post far and wide. Roy’s new family is waiting to meet him!

If you’re interested to adopt Roy, please contact the Plano Animal Shelter directly.
